Silk Hope Weekly Events 9/14/14

Scores Released
Congratulations to Silk Hope School's students and staff! The State Board of Education has released accountability data for the 2013-2014 school year.  Silk Hope students met expected growth. This means we met our predicted growth scores.  We also met 31 of 33 Annual Measureable Objectives.  Great job students and staff!
PTA Thrift Shop
A huge thank you to all parents and community members who volunteered at the PTA Thrift Shop last year. Our school received a check for $36,258.18 last fall and our goal was to receive a check for $40,000 for the 2014-2015 school year. We recently were informed that Silk Hope School would receive a check in the amount of $45,154.86! A huge thanks to Mrs. Mattie Jean, our thrift shop queen, and all volunteers.
Upcoming Events for the Week Include:
  • The Silk Hope Site Based Management Team will be meeting Monday at 3:10
  • Middle School parents are invited to an informational meeting Monday at 6pm
  • The PTA Advisory Board will meet Monday at 6:30 pm in the Media Center
  • Girls Softball and Boys Soccer will be competing at Moncure on Tuesday and will be hosting Margaret Pollard Middle School Thursday. Come out and support the Eagles!
  • Students will be dismissed from school Wednesday at 11:30. Please inform teachers if students will be getting home a different way.

Girls Softball
Silk Hope vs. Moncure 9-16.14
Congratulations to the Lady Eagles on their first win of the season.  They beat Moncure 19-0.

Jocelyn Mitchell pitched a no-hitter, striking out 6 batters and Emery Moore came in to close the game in the last inning - striking out 3 batters to end the game.
The Lady Eagles will play again tomorrow at home against Pollard.  Game time is 4:15.

Boys Soccer
Silk Hope Vs. Moncure 9-16-14

The Silk Hope Eagles boys soccer team played their first game of the season away at Moncure. Despite the heat, rough field conditions, and only 6 practices under their belts, the boys played hard on the field and held their ground, starting the season with a tie. 27 shots on goal yielded 2 balls in the net, both by Daniel Soto, with assists by Israel Garcia & Hunter Cole. Their next game is Thursday at home against Pollard.

Silk Hope PTA Golf Tournament
Silk Hope School is holding it’s 1st Annual PTA Captain’s Choice Golf Outing Saturday, October 4 at Sourwood Forest Golf Club.  You can get involved by registering to play, becoming a sponsor, or donating prizes.  The Silk Hope PTA raises money to directly benefit and enhance the education and extra curricular activities of our students. 100% of the funds raised goes to Silk Hope School.  Registration and sponsorship forms are available at the front office and you can download here.

From the district AIG office...
Parent University begins with 2 events. Dr. Kelly Batten presents information about High School Credit by Demonstrated Mastery at Chatham Central High School. Parents of and students enrolled in advanced middle school classes and high school students may be interested in this event. Other information sessions will be conducted at JM & Northwood in the future. Thursday, October 2, CCHS auditorium.
Dr. Rick Courtright talks about the definitions of giftedness and about Duke TIP. This is open to all parents & students. Thursday, October 9, Pittsboro Elementary School multi-purpose room. 
Both events are from 6:00-7:00 pm.
Early Dropoff
take note clipartParents, please remember that students can not be dropped of until 7:15 each morning. Students will need to wait to exit their cars until the morning supervisor unlocks the front doors. Because student safety is very important to us, please do not leave students unattended at the front of the school. Thank you for keeping our students safe.

Volunteer Application Information
We love our volunteers at SHS!  Anyone wishing to tutor, be a classroom helper, chaperone field trips, etc must fill out an online application through the AppGarden site.  As a reminder, volunteers must resubmit an application each school year.
You can access the site here.  If you are new to the site you will need to click on the green link at the bottom to register.  If you have an account with AppGarden you do not need to create a new account.  You will just need to log in and update your profile.  

Please note the criminal background checks may take several weeks to process so please complete the application as soon as possible.
School Improvement Team Meeting Dates
The School Improvement Team will meet on the 3rd Monday of each month with the exception of January (there will be no meeting) and March (we will meet on the 4th Monday) in the Media Center. Parents and other stakeholders are welcome to attend.
